LESS REALLY IS MORE..
The Art of Knowing When to Stop
We all love a beautifully styled space, but sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with the finishing touches. One more accessory, another decorative piece, a few things added to fill an empty spot… and before you know it, the space starts to feel a little busy.
It’s not about stripping everything back or making a home feel bare. It’s about being intentional with what you choose to display and giving each element room to shine. A little negative space can go a long way, helping a room feel more open, considered and cohesive.
Our advice? Before adding something new, take a moment to look at the space as a whole. Does it add something to the design, or is it simply filling a gap? You might be surprised by how much better a space can feel by removing a few things rather than adding more.
At the end of the day, great design isn't always about what you add. Sometimes, it’s about what you leave out. And when the materials, finishes and details have been thoughtfully considered, they really don't need much else to do the talking.
At Gull Design, we believe some of the best interiors are the ones that know when to hold back. Overstyling can overwhelm a space, taking the attention away from the beautiful materials, thoughtful details and craftsmanship that make a design stand out in the first place.
When it comes to kitchens and joinery, this is especially important. Beautiful cabinetry, a statement stone benchtop or a carefully selected finish doesn’t need much competing for attention. Sometimes, a clear benchtop, a favourite vase and a few well-chosen pieces are all it takes to bring a space together.
A little less clutter, a little more breathing room, and a space that speaks for itself.
